Established in 1997… The South Boston Collaborative Center was founded in 1997 in response to the dramatic and tragic increase in adolescent overdoses and suicides in South Boston. Today, with the support the Department of Public Health, the Boston Public Health Commission, and the South Boston Community, the Collaborative continues to provide counseling, education, outreach, and referral services to the youth and families of South Boston and its surrounding communities. The Collaborative provides each individual an opportunity to focus on their goals and assist in the efforts to remove barriers to positive change in a safe and confidential environment. We offer Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), which combines medication with counseling to treat substance use disorders to help clients manage withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings. Our Nurse Practitioner also evaluates for and prescribes psychiatric medications. Students learn adult and child CPR, infant CPR, choking relief for all ages, and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Each free CPR class also includes a Harm Reduction module where students learn how to prevent, identify, and reverse an opioid overdose. Classes are held at our center on the second Tuesday of every month. All are welcome.
